hung up on leaves

Postby nut161 » Sun Jul 27, 2014 6:12 pm

Ok so today did some mud tracks near home and found i was getting hung up on some rutted tracks by my leaves. Is this something i just have to deal with or is there some method of guards or slider type fitment to help the leaves slide over deep ruts?

You havnt done a shakle lift have you? Factory shakels are 100mm pin to pin. The front of the leaf can get caught up in rocky situations but in those places often your diffs and front susspensions also get in the way. Only 3 ways to avoid this.
1 raise the truck further with bigger tyres etc
2 a bit more care in wheel placement
3 dont do those tracks

ok there is only 2 ways

no shackles have raised efs heavy duty leaves. my mate said its just something to live with for a leaf sprung 4x4, was just checking that i hadnt missed anything to mod to help the situation.

What do you mean by hung up?
Do you mean wheel in the air held up by the spring or do you mean the axle on the deck because of the mounting plate for the spring or are you just dragging the rear of the spring through the dirt.
It would have to be a fairly extreme track to achieve the first. My bighorn has the same rear setup (Lovells springs though) and Ive never been hung on the springs. On Sunday it was dragging its whole rear end so hard that there was enough clay jammed between the towbar and fuel tank to fill a Fosters cans box. Had a similar amount stuck to the underside of the winch bar as well.

What size tyres are you running? people with 32s and 33s dont seem to suffer this
Was it a badly rutted track?
Sometimes you can get away with stradling ruts but its highly not recomended because if you slip into the rut it could cause a roll. Sometimes there is no other viable option.
I have seen low profile axle mount plates but cant remember where. also not sure they would pass your roadworthy tests

31s but the track was seriously rutted and was no option but to drive in the ruts to where we where going. Had no issues in the otherr stuff later where mates had trouble just bottomed out on way in essentially

As above, if you are trying to go through ruts populated by 35" bastards then you won't have a fun day out
