using 10mm thick strap does it still need a X brace?

Makin ext shackles with 1.5in(40mm) as a temp fix, meaning that the total length hole to hole is 170mm. YES?

Misc info, my stock shackles were 90mm hole to hole,
Cheers,
Andrew

I always put a cross brace in on any shackle that is over 150mm long centre to centre, It would work with out it but even with 10mm you could bend them when cornering. you can just weld a bit of flat in the middle, it doesn't have to be a bolt.

In theroy your calculation is correct, however I did a set for a Hilux once and it was 25mm higher than planned for some reason, so no guaranties!!!
Oh how i miss my mu, the lux is just not the same :(
