You may find that your speedo is not that far out, I have 32's on and the speedo is now almost exact, so it must have been under reading by about 5km before hand.

My speedo (prefer shorts actually :D ) was accurate with the original 28 1/2 inch tyres. They where real trench cutters

Hey I got the standard 31 x 10.5 x 15 tyres on the 15x7 JJ Mu wheels. I about to finally put my 2 inch body lift in and want to go to 33's. Will the wheels take 33 x 11 x 15 or wider? and will they fit with the body lift?

Ive seen a 37x15x15 on an 8 inch rim. It worked ok and the rim never got damaged. It looked silly though and not tyre company will warrentee a tyre like that. It should also fail wof.
8 inch is the legal minimum but 7 would probably work. We didnt tell you this though

Beaurepairs were selling 15x 8 steel 4x4 rims for $99 last year -not real heavy duty but better than the standard pressed rims

I've got speedy rims, 15x8, -28.

They look really good, took a little balancing on some of them.
On road they don't have any wheel vibration (apart from normal mud tyres).

I haven't got mine off road yet, just got them on, but my mechanic seemed to think they were strong, quality rims.

Another option was the ROH Track 2 or something, but in -24. These are more expensive, but easier to balance.

As I was going for tubes, mud tyres, and they are steel (easier to fix than alloy), I thought I'd save a little money and go with the cheaper ones and deal with having to balance them.

Also the wheel track is only allowed to be 12% over the factory specs -local mechanic says how he now what that is? :D

It seems that I have rohs as they have track2 printed on them but they have a few wieghts on them. Never damaged one though

The trtack is measured from the center of one rim to the center of the other. If you could fit them there is no limit on the width of a tyre as long as the extra width is equal on both sides of the original center. In practise this cant be done so we offset the wheels outwards. This puts extra strain on bearings etc which is why certification is required. On 4wds this is just a 400 rubber stamp unless you are doing something crazy. I thought the measurement was 25mm not 12%. Also I dont know how mechys ever find the original track info.

I have just had a tire fail a warrant and another is on 3mm. Currently I have standard rims and am running 245/70r16's, dropped into firestone today and have some options the firestone at direct replacement buy 2 for about 480 on vehicle or go bigger. 265/70r16's for 290 each (firestone) or the Bridgestone D694 same size for $305. I was under the mistaken impression that the 265 was a 32 inch but it is not, the 285 is and I didn't get a price for these.

I would like to go for the 285 but unsure of price and unsure if they will fit under my truck as standard, a 2 " body lift is planned for later in the year but need tires now. Any ideas gentlemen?

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html

this link is to a site that converts inches to metric and gives you the difference that the increased tyre size has made to the speedo.

265/70/16 = 30.5 in
265/75/16 = 31.5 in

285/70/16 = 30.6 in
285/75/16 = 32.8 in

245/70/16 when increased to 285/75/16 increases speedo by 11.3% i.e 100km/hr on the clock is actually 111.3 km/hr.

Now im sure (though i cant remember where) i read on this site that the newer bighorns can take a 285/80/16 = 34 in with no mods. not sure if wizards are the same or not. but i think you have come to the right place.

hope i have helped.

if your electrical issues you mention in your profile are things not working on the dash, investigate replacing the charge relay, that fixed heaps of niggly things on my old bighorn.

good luck

I have an inkling that anything that changes the diameter (maybe circumference) by more than 5% requires certification in New Zealand. Not just because of speedo error but also things like braking performance.

True but also remember that sizes vary between tyre types. A 31 inch crossply swamper or simex is bigger than a 32 inch radial of most brands. Most 32s actually measure between 31.1 and 31.3 inches but the 2 xplys are closer to 31.5 mainly due to there deeper tread

Hi,
It would be more better to fit 32" tires in 8" wide rims....
33" tires would not make a better fit ....
Thanks
