bed base in tray of rodeo

Postby 98Rodeo » Mon Aug 02, 2010 5:12 pm

Hi,

I am looking at putting in a large sheet of ply in my tray just below the top to use as a bed while i drive to adelaide this christmas (canvas canopy soon coming)
am going to use the space underneath for storage boxes with gear in it and fridge is in the back seat.
Not too interested in draws as i want it to be easily removable for when im at home.
What thickness of ply would anyone who has done this recommend? I was thinking about 16-18mm marine ply

16 to 18 sounds good anything smaller will probably sag, i build houses and we never use anything smaller than that if it has to support someone if you use thinner it weighs less but you will need more support witch will take away any advantage of thinner ply

Don't worry about using marine ply just use structural ply

I would of used 12mm but also fitted a centre support which would help stop the gear moving around underneath.
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Even using 16 or 18mm ply you still want framing through the middle to support it other wise it will sag
