I hope you like reading. This is just the legal bits

Why do you want a roll bar in a bighorn? If you are competing then there is little choice but keeping all the seats is a bit of a tricky one. If its just for added piece of mind on harder tracks then a solid cargo barrier sidesteps most of the rules and gives 70 to 80 percent of the protection. I run a cargo barrier in mine as it was the easiest way to keep rear seats

those ladas were a good 4wd and went places that nobody would believe and with a few minor repairs even made it back. Bit slow on road though but a 4jb1 and 5 speed would fix that

Remember the taiga utes Some of the old mans farm mates took one out the Moeawatea (real tough papa hill country) where one of them had a bush farm and took a series 2 landy to recover it. Both very experienced drivers in hill country I think that you can guess what pulled what out

I wouldnt mock the Landys too much. I was out at club champs the other week and there was a few of those still competing. The one in our group was sporting a v12 bmw engine and competes in national champs.
Always had a soft spot for them probably because 40 years ago I was a pom.

Back in my younger days I was out on a trip as a passenger, all the trucks got stuck, there was two ladas there a niva and a cossack I think, the niva only got stuck when they changed drivers and he backed into a bank and got hung up on the tow bar.

Certainly not mocking them as you say they are still a great vehicle there must be a reason the defender is still based on the old series 2 and 3. Have a friend with a series 1 2litre diesel with matching numbers (still road legal) and he still uses it for farm work

Ive just had a bad thought. Arnt those monocoque construction? The whole body was the chassis. Now you only have half a chassis
