Have you had to adjust steering to stop frame rub with 33"s?

Postby lewis » Mon Nov 15, 2010 6:35 pm

Hey guys

My truck is not far off ready for its big rubber, which I am yet to purchase. Ive got 15*8 -24 offset rims, and looking to get 33*12.5*15 maxis bighorns.

So Im wanting to find out whether you have had to adjust your steering end stops to stop rub of the tyres on the frame at full lock or if there shouldnt be a clearance issue.

And if you have had to do it is it easy :) ?

Thanks

Lewis

Yes, on -28 offset rims, which will be very similar.

There's two allen-key bolts through nuts that act as the steering limiters.

Turn the wheels to full lock, and you'll see where the bolts limit the steering drop arm or idler arm.

I set it visually, then jacked up one side of the front suspension at a time to check if the tyre rubbed on the chassis at full lock, and adjusted.

You can see the bolt in this picture near the bottom control arm mount.

yes it was very simple once i found the bolts haha. On one side the bolt isnt really long enough as the nut has half its thread on it and clearance is not ideal - however with the type of thread i was told at EDL fastners that finding a replacement would be difficult - well they couldnt get me one so ill just leave it as is :P

Hi Lewis, I removed a bolt from the bumper mount and drilled it out, it is straight into the chassis and through the bumper mount too, yes it is braced.
