Body Lift

When doing a body lift on a Mu, does 1 remove the rubber blocks that are already there, or add the new lift blocks on top of these? :?:

Can someone please explain to me what you get out of a 3 inch body lift with no other mods. Im not trying to get at anyone but I seem to be missing a point. I did see one on a bighorn that was 3+ with nothing else done and I couldnt see what he actually gained as his ground clearance or anything else hadnt changed

Hmmm, basicly id say aproach/departure angle, and ability to fit "bigger" tyres.... pretty much it i think. Oh and the wannabe hardcore look.

dikikx,
There are a few things you have to worry about, first have a look at the first FAQ section and there is a thread in there on body lifts.
You will have to either lift the fuel tank (which is a great idea), or extend the filler hose, the gear shift and transfer shift levers need altered and/or extended, the radiator needs moved up and the cowling around the bottom will probably need removed, the steering shaft may need to be extended, and then you have to keep an eye on all the brake lines, electrical cables, fuel lines, etc, etc.
Not trying to scare you, there a few guys on here who have done 3" lifts who can advise you better, but it is a big lift, and affects alot of things.

slightlydodgy,
By lifting the body that much, it allows you to fit bigger tires which effectively lifts your whole ground clearance. We all fit suspension lifts to lift the chassis out of the way, but unless you fit bigger tires you still have the diffs at the same height. Also by lifting the body and not the suspension you then don't have to worry about cv angles and all that stuff.
A couple of guys back home have only a 1" suspension lift but are running 33-35" tires and they go any where the rest of us will go because of the extra clearance under the axles.
Oh how i miss my mu, the lux is just not the same :(

have a search for Icelandic 4wd sites. Theres 2 types of 4wding over there. The cliff climbing with nitros blown v8s which is fantastic to watch but the crashes are scary and the touring. They can only tour in the winter due to environmental concerns and rarely run less than 44 inch tyres for this but in the summer they put the normal road tyres on and you can put a crate of beer on top of the wheel inside the guard. (might even get 2 one on top of the other)
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

with regard to the fuel tank lift mentioned above, how is that done? do you just use the same blocks as you would for a bodylift and put them under where the fuel tank bolts to the chassis?

- i'm away from home for a few weeks otherwise i'd go have a look :P

Just did a 50mm bodylift on the MU automatic. Got 10x alloy blocks off ebay and got the bolts through a local supplier, $6 each for 150mm high tensile bolts. Followed the guide in FAQ, only had to disconnect the seatbelt anchors, and adjust the bolts that control the length of the selector bar that runs from the auto gearbox to the base of the selector. Hi-Lo selection wasn't affected by the lift. Biggest pain was getting the side steps off.

For the bighorn it looks like I could remove the tank guard, get longer bolts and just use some box section steel as a spacer to lift it? I guess if the tank guard was to be refitted it would need to have the mount cut/shortened and re-welded.
Im also keen to hear from people who have done it
Also details on how to remount the radiator, and if the fan works effectively without the shroud would be great

Thats as I thought with the spacer, and you must have shortened and rewelded the guard holder yeah?
How did you modify your radiator setup for the lift?
Cheers

Just on the bodylift, Is the Rodeo Ute the same amount of blocks as the lwb jackeroo?
And does anyone know the length of the bolts that are needed?
I know they are all 8.8's 10mm (6 M10 and 6 with a 1.25 pitch)
