damo667 wrote:Well I've got a plan together..
I'm going to disconnect the original pipe that routes round behind the radiator and make a waterproof cap for the intake I dont want to get rid of it completely as there seems to be a breather pipe running into it which I haven't got round to identifying yet..
Then I'm going to cut a hole in the other side for my new intake.
Then I'll get a mate to weld a short length of pipe into it which I can hose clip a (75mm internal diameter) flexible pipe to.
The choice now is to either move the steering reservoir and go through the usual spot or try to weave the flexible pipe round everything and go through the wing further up..
I will then run the flexible pipe all the way up to a snorkel hat (poss home made)
The plan is then in the future (more money permitting) I can slide some steel over the flexy pipe and jazz the appearance up a bit..

If anyone can see any problems with this please let me know and I will post more pics as I get further along (may be a while as have boost project as well at mo)
Cheers guys for all your help..

whats that in the bottom of your air box

Bottom of the bighorn airbox is like that. Without a snorkle it will hold several litres of water before it gets to the engine This gives nearly half a second more time to get out of the water.
Yes my snorkel is an airflow designed for series 2 discovery

@jellis I thought the hole in the bottom of the airbox is from an oil bath to catch larger particles coming through the current intake.. I could be mistaken.
The previously 'unidentified breather' leads to it via a box underneath.
The diff breather seems to be a bit further back just out of shot in the pic

@geeves I was just wondering what the internal diameter on the factory ones were as I've never seen one fitted to the ubs55
I guess its hard to estimate as they are not generally circular..

When you remove the pipeing you will see its odd size and shape but its slightly less than the current inlet to the cleaner

nah its just a piece of old sink bench with a couple of kinks put in it to go under the door rubber with a cople of tec screws. and a slot cut in about 10mm from each side under the pipe for the cable ties the only bend is a 45 where it goes through the guard

that old bench has been very handy over the years its repaired atv exhausts, holds the lights by my mirrors on the ute, made milking cluster stands, and made a shut off slide for a fert spreader to name a few. Not much left now though

Those holes goes down into another box, I think it is for catching water. I would go at least 2.5" on the snorkel

Well cheers for your input guys
Got the old beast put together today..
Ended up buying it all off trademe as price was an issue I spent:
$47 on joiners,
$35 on a 1m flexy joiner,
$51 on the cap (thought Ide get a proper one as they drain pretty good apparently)
$52 on 3" alloy tubes..

Think I noticed a bit of a difference on the drive home but haven't got out and given her a good test yet..
what with the work I've done on the boost and fuel I'm pretty happy..

Exhaust next... wait for the excess cash to build up first.. might be a long wait haha..

Looks good. I looked at something similar but thought that where you went through might be structural because of the bracing above it. Obviously thats not the case

Cheers. I wasn't sure myself so I asked my Wof guy about it and he said no problem.. and to double check I popped in Vtnz and they said the same..
So fingers crossed for 6 months time.
Just started the old girl up to move her and big white cloud came out of the exhaust.. hope the snorkels not collecting condensation.. hopefully just a coincidence.. Have to see what happens tomorrow..
