few things have changed since my last post.. ended up using my good blue mu body instead of the black as the black shell had several rust spots and several of the body mounts have corroded and torn off so it was just too much work to get it all tidyied up. scrapped the black shell and split the body from my good mu. got the chassis sitting under the shell and began priming and painting the inside and engine bay...

more to follow...

Step at the back and a hugemongous bullbar at the front would fix that

haha yep thats what i was thinking, fronts not too bad, tube bar would easily mask it , rears a bit further out but was thinking of using it to build a large tube bar at the rear that wraps around the bottom of the guards..
sprayed the inside and out today and stuck my tyres on to get a better idea of height. (that and all the mismatched tyres was giving me false levels)
- fitted the gq steering box back to chassis (very minor trimming of inner guard required. looks like it will line up quite well with steering rack, just need to shorten rack arm a bit.
- began lining up and fitting body mounts.

Well I am closely following your progress. As it might be the way I go.

I am interested how the body mounts and chassis mounts line up.

What motor and box/transfer you going to use?

Using std 4b1t , box and transfer... Mounts don't line up with chassis but in good positions to make custom ones... Working on that now...

yes and no mate. i kept it at that height for a few reasons, guard clearance for big wheels and to avoid a lot more cutting on the shell to clear chassis components. if you flick through yarno's rig setup he's got pics there showing how much he had to cut the inner guards at the front to clear the shock towers and steering box and had to cut the chassis crossmember to clear front rad support section. plus it allows me to fit the fuel tank higher up and give me better angles and underbody clearance from rocks etc. i've set it up in the pics with the body blocks so that if i need to or decide to later i can remove them to drop it 50mm, although i will then have to cut guards etc if i dont already.
mainly though it was just due to simplicity and seemed like a nice height :) lol

you got me paranoid now though mate, you think it looks to high?

also bear in mind there is no engine etc or weight in the cab so the springs will sag a bit and bring the wheels closer to the guards... but to contradict that i havent put the lift kit in yet.lol

more mount building. all mounts are now tacked to chassis and ready to be fully welded in once i lift it again. just got to figure out the best way to brace the front mounts under the footwell as they extend so far out from the chassis...

pulled out the steering column, removed, regreased and replaced the boot on the pivot. swapped columns due to a dicky key barrel on my original one, sometimes the key wouldnt turn and had to giggle it to get it to unlock steering lock....

now that mounts are tacked its time to measure and tack tank brackets in place to fit and lift the mu (not the original gq) fuel tank.
