Postby rustyvr4 » Mon Sep 10, 2012 5:33 pm

i have 1996 mu 3.1 manual. disc brakes all round which work well, but i would like to upgrade them some how. has any one done this? like slotted rotors, 2 or 4 pot calipers in the front, would like bolt in replacements from another truck so that no special work needs to be done. this means mr wof won,t have a cow at me

have you got single or twins on the front already? must be driving it hard to want bigger brakes? remember if you are fitting more pistons you will need to upgrade the master cylinder aswell and will need to run a adjustable brake pressure regulator

i would have to measure but maybe front twin pot front calipers and rotors off a RA rodeo 03-05 shape, or maybe the calipers and your rotors have a 3.1 in paddock not sure if they are same as 2.8, you could also fit drums on the back if you want real braking but are no good for off road

Have you tried different compounds of brake pads?

Does yours have ABS?

Hit the pedal harder and let the ecu stop it! unless there is a fault in your braking system the only way to upgrade it is improve grip. So better tyres and new shocks will work.
Better pads will help. Slotted rotors won't do a damn thing for road use.
After the above, larger diameter rotors is all you can do. That will mean relocating your calipers too.
