Fly3r's SAS Project

Postby Fly3r » Fri Sep 04, 2009 1:17 pm

Its started awhile ago, but i thought its about time I posted a few pics of the SAS going on with my MU, Muvit has the job of doing all the fabrication

Firstly, I'm doing this because I got sick of changing CV's Joints and Tie rods, I think my total was up to 9 joints and 7 tierods... (plus a ford laser CV  !). An I like the Idea of a solid front axle.
So in febuary this year(2009) I pulled it off the road and started up th 9in angle grinder and started chopping.

My aim, double air locked, 37in tyres, patro, GQ difs, 4.88 crown wheel and pinion, 45mm tough dog shocks rear with coils, and racerunner coil overs on the front (basics).
anyways here's some pics.

Looking forward to another SAS thread!

What height are you aiming for? Taller or shorter than Muvits?

Why the front coilovers? Do they flex better than links?

How much do think the project will set you back?

Andy.

Ray does some awesome work!!! can't denie that.
Its looking like it'll be a an inch o two higher than his, but that can be fixed with sime softer springs a about the same length as his.
I think the cost will work out somewhere about the 14k-15k mark, I have a saying, 'do it once do it right' so i kind of gone for all the added extras and quality items.
I'm going with coil overs cause I think it'll allow for more drop out, and with compression the tyres woun't be hitting on the coil purchases. plus its a little different to rays.
I'm going for a more standad 5 link front and back, so hopefully will nedd less repairing and more durable.

A good powder coat keeps it good and shows off how special it is. In the grand scheme of things it doesnt add much to the cost. ie whats another 500 in a 15k project

Cool keep the pics coming. We did a budget SAS on ours. We've been held up a bit, need to drop some more springs out to get it low enough for the cert guy.

It might end up a little high, but i'll be using the same guy that engineered Ray Mu, so there should be no reason why it won't go though at this hight.
The powder coating also is so much easier to clean, bit of truck wash and a gurnie and you'd never know what i've been up to...
its not going to be a show pony, and i plan on using it to its full capabilities

they are 35in creepies under the truck atm, 37's are still coming

Got a double cardinal joint, so the tail shaft should be to far away, plus the upper control arms, just need to be picked up,

next couple of things to come
4in hydrolic bumpstops
limiting strap
hydrolic hand brake

Looks sweet mate!

If that diff armor plate is welded on, can you still access the filler bolt? Looks like the recess is there, but not in the right place?
