Hi Guys,

A friend of mine with a Isuzu Rodeo/holden just lost and engine i was told due to a faulty Oilpump.... He is now toying with the Idea of sourcing an engine from the ISUZU D-MAX 3.0...

Is this upgrade possible in the older Holden?... and would he be able to use the current gearbox etc with this newer engine or will he aslo have to change the gearbox as well...What else will he need to change or source to complete this conversion if its posible?

If anyone has done this swap please advise..

Everything is possible but some things are quite hard. You will need to use the auto that comes with the new engine unless you are very lucky and find a manual. Even then useing the dmax gearbox removes one set of problems. Main issue will be the computer and wiring loom. I dont know if these have anti theft things built in but if they do the engine will not start without the ignition key and ignition lock from the donor car.
If you have a complete crashed dmax then its worth a try. If not it will be a major mission

get him to check the price out first, here in Australia buying a brand new motor is very expensive very like around $15 grand at least. would be a lot cheaper to put a recon in it

You will be the first to do this mod. Let us know. The engine would be very similar in length and width but could be taller. This could be a good excuse for doing a body lift
