Bullbar and external storage ideas for 97 Isuzu MU Ute

Postby Greenfingaz » Fri Jan 10, 2014 1:18 am

Hey guys,
This is my first post on here and am hoping that i can get a few questions answered about my car. Its a 97 Isuzu MU Petrol Ute (which i have been told today is quite uncommon). We are having a snorkel fitted next week, and was looking into getting a winch fitted which also means adding a bull bar. I have read that certain bighorn and rodeo bull bars will fit but just wanted to make sure that I'm getting it right for the year (97).
Secondly, because of its slightly odd shape in the sense its a 2 door, hard top ute, storage space inside is pretty tight for my girl and the 2 dogs and camping gear so we are looking into whatever external storage as possible. i spotted a brand called Rock Hard which do something called the rock rack… but unfortunately its only make for jeeps http://www.rockhard4x4.com/product_p/rh-2004.htm . this would be great if it could be modified to fit but am doubting i will find anyone who will try.
Any thoughts and suggestions would be good on either topic.
Many thanks
Greenfingaz

"Quite uncommon"? Personally, I've never heard of one. Do you have any photos?

Chasssis no will help identify. It will start UCS69 or 73 Thats the bit we need. Im guessing its the 73 so it will have a 3.2 v6 coil spring rear etc. Nice truck. Catch is that it may have a plastic roof which could make a roof rack a bit of fun. If Im right its the same body as the holden Frontera sport

ps Ive deleted the other identical thread to save confusion

i checked the roof and its metal. are the VIN and chassis number the same thing? this car has been imported and the VIN isn't the original. also i noticed the manufacturers plate just next to it. it says it was made in 1990 but the rego documents say its a 97… I'm now assuming that this is the year it entered australia? i THINK i have added a couple of pictures of the plates in question.
so I'm looking for bull bars that will fit a 90 or 97 isuzu MU.
Any help would be great!
Cheers

To the best of my knowledge the utes were only made 1989 to 1993.

Your chassis number should be stamped on the outboard side of the chassis. Have a look behind the right hand rear wheel (you can see it with the wheel fitted) at about the two oclock position. I think that yours will read UCS17 (D or W) 71XXXXX.

There is also an Isuzu ID/Options plate on the firewall (this may get removed when imported into Australia) that confirms the year of manufacture. The date uses an alphabetical coding where A=0, B=1, C=2, D=3, E=4, F=5, G=6, H=7, I=8 & J=9. Eg BC/JA would = 12/90 (December 1990).

the rodeo chassis has the same mounts as the mu's up to and including 2000 model, maybe even later model . also the frontera fibreglass canopy will fit a mu ute. you could also build a draw for the back .
I think therefore I am...........confused
