3.8 v6 in place of 4jx1 - trans question

Postby nb422 » Sat May 10, 2014 3:12 pm

Hi guys, currently fitting a series one vr v6 engine in place of the 4jx1. The owner wants to retain the wizards auto but I trying to sway him as it is alot more effort to mate the isuzu auto to the motor than put the transfer case on the holden auto. My question is does the 4jx1 auto's transfer case have the same splines as the holden auto? Or is this solely the 3.1 auto transfer which does? Have both a 3.1 auto and the wizard auto but using the wizards one is preferred. Cheers

Also when removing the transfer case its not going to do something silly like drop a gear down from where its meant to be inside the case etc?

I havnt looked at this in detail but enough people have done this with no reported issues to not believe it will work.
2 other things to consider re the wizard auto. The ecu talks to the engine ecu so is going to throw a hissy fit Also the ratios and change points are wrong for the v6

Ah thank you Geeves, the ecu part is a good point that hadnt occured to me. What part of the box relies on ecu? Or does it shift electrically? Cheers
