Do ubs69 rear seats fit into ubs55??

Postby damo667 » Thu Apr 16, 2015 9:02 pm

Hi
I was just wondering if anyone knows if the rear seat out of a UBS69 would fit straight into my UBS55 using all original mounts/holes and not causing any warrant issues?
Circumstances have necessitated the use of a baby seat and the old 'come apart' fold down seats of the old bighorn dont give me many options for where to put it.
I see you can get a more sold rear seat for the early models (sides dont remove) but they seem to be pretty rare

Cheers in Advance

the mounting bracket on the floor is very different as ubs69 seats have the seatbelts attached. If you can use your original seatbelts you might be able to modify the bracket to work which wont affect wof but trying to modify your car to fit the ubs69 seat with belts will count as a seatbelt modification and big drama
Mu seat might be an easier bet

Most baby seats are attached to a lap diagonal seatbelt these days and apart from the hassel adjusting the belt after fitting should work fine. Even on retracting belts to fit a baby seat you should fit a clip to lock the belt.
Incidently the metal version of this clip works very well to lock the seatbelt when 4wding so if you get out with the car on an odd angle you can still put the seatbelt on when you get back in

Does your UBS55 not have Lap/Diagonal belts in the back?

Or are you worried about the sturdiness of your original back seat?

I have had a childs seat in the back of a Mu (UCS55) before (Grandfather duties) and though that it was sturdy enough (folding seat with lap/diagonal belt).

in a crash the belts are doing all the work. Dont worry about how stable it is off road as you shouldnt subject any child to any form of vigorous shaking until the brain is fully developed at about age 2 (ie babys and 4wding dont mix)

@Geeves, Its more road driving I'm worried about and comfort for additional passengers I have the baby seat well secured at the moment in the middle at the back but I would like the option to move it to one of the sides for better comfort of passengers or even the possibility of fitting another one in if needed (heaven forbid)..

@Turnturn, I have the manually adjustable diagonal belts on either side and the standard lap belt in the middle but I think they are all fine for the job. Its not the sturdiness of the seat, just the removable wings on either side. they remove themselves with vibrations so are not ideal to secure a baby seat to..

@Rob, I'm looking for the rear seats without the removable sides, I've only seen one ubs55 bighorn with them and all others seem to have the removable wings. They still fold forward but dont lay back for camping trips. would you have a set in your extensive ubs55 collection?

If not I might have to check out some MU rears and see if they match up.
Cheers for your input guys

the recaro based seats had a clip to hold the wings on The levers fall off though so yours might be repairable

Sweet as long as theres no major rips or anything living in them they should be all right :)
Mine look a wee bit past repair as theres just holes where the levers/mechanisms should be..

Do those seats still fold forward?

You wouldn't have a set of good condition CVs for sale or are you keeping them for spares?

Cheers

Hope the pictures help, as you can see the bead has come out of the metal just needs refitting and hammer the metal over to hold the bead in

Cheers Rob, I'm defo keen on them
I dont have those raised bumps where the brackets attach but I'm sure I can put some spacers there and get some longer bolts
I would need the brackets as well as the seats

Also keen on a set of CV's and the thrust washers & roller bearings for the front end if you've still got them

Cheers
