Oversize pump plunger and turbo or just go v6

Postby nb422 » Mon Apr 27, 2015 4:59 pm

Has anyone here ever increased the plunger size in the injector pump on either a 4jb1 or 4jg2? What gains did you see as opposed to costs of doing so. I am weighing up if i want to build up my 4jb1 or my 4jg2, or just stick my 3.8 vs commodore motor in. The cost of my adapter plate is going to be just short of 1000$ plus all the rest i'm considering a new turbo (Either machined housing with vf8 or just vf10, or a garrett b/b turbo) and a worked injector pump.
Will obviously have all custom intake and exhaust to suit though.
Cheers

I built my 2.8 4jb1 with a vf8 intake, vf10 core and isuzu exhaust housing running 12psi, slightly modified pump but standard internals and went very well in my 3 tonne bighorn, mate at turbo and diesel said that i would have to get a custom plunger for my 2.8 pump as no other pump has a bigger plunger that fits, i would stick with the 2.8 or 3.1 way less stress, there was a mu on trademe in hamilton for 1k manual 3.1

Damn I must of missed that mu. We already own 4 mu's and recently acquired a 3.2 irmischer cheap haha. I'm thinking i'll just go bigger turbo and get the head fixed (Cylinders 3 and 4 down 200psi and i'm linking this to damaged valves after the broken cambelt) and get the pump tweaked then. Changed my mind on the 3.8 after a day of 4 wheeling and 200km road driving all on 26$ diesel
