Turning Up Disel Pump(Fuel)

Can anyone direct me as to how this is done and support this with some pics please?

I believe this is a special mod I would like to do,yet I cannot see exactly where this would be done.

Fuel adjustment screw is on back side of your injection pump, it will have a green tin cover over it that you must remove , then you'l see a sloted screw with a 12mm nut locking it in place ,loosen nut while holding screw with commom screw driver, once nut is loosened turn in screw one full turn and then tighten lock nut while holding screw in place, one turn should do it, then take for ride and check that you don't have too much smoke , if so just repeat procidure only back of screw a little. Take it for a ride first and see how much smoke it produces at full throtle and use that as a guide line on how much it changes after you turn it up.

looking for a bit of advice now that i know where to locate the fuel screw.

been reading through the forum and found info on turning up fuel to match a rise in boost pressure from 10psi standard to 15 psi.
my question is, can anyone suggest how much to turn the srcew as a starting point for fine tuning?

Oh, i drive a UK trooper 3.1 TD 1997, if this helps.

thanks in advance. BJ

I start off with one full turn, that's usually enough, like I said up top, take it for a ride before you do any adjustments and see how much black smoke your putting out at full throttle, if any, then do the one full turn and check again, you don't want tons of black smoke, as you'll be just wasting fuel and not gaining any more power, remember black smoke is unburnt fuel!

A little black smoke at full throttle is OK cybereej, you just don't want a whole lot of it.

my 95 bighorn 3.1 is electronically controlled and turning up the boost doesnt make any difference, so it mustnt be able to compensate higher than standard settings, have to take it in to the dyno tuners for it to be done properly. its running 12 standard, what about yours?

also i couldnt find any fuel adjustment screw anywere, dont think they have one

they do Its under a cap. Increasing the fuel on that engine though also increases the idle speed

can understand what you guys are saying about the bighorn but my trooper has a thumb throttle so idle isnt a problem.
i found the fuel screw and gonna measure the boost pressure and see what it measures, thought its ment to be 10psi standard or is the bighorn different? where is best to take boost gauge from?

WOW I can't see any fuel adjustment screw on your pump but there should be one somewhere, how about it Geeves you see one anywhere?? That might be it on the upper left of the bottom photo, its under a yellowish tin cap. Your pump is way differant than mine.

everyone expects too much of me. A lot of things are from memory from what others have written and this is one of those. Ive never actually touched a pump.

If your pump is like mine the adjustment screw is too left out of camera shot of the bottom pic. Under a cover. Careful not to bend the cover pulling it off I ficked mine totally.

you don't ser the fuel adjustment screw because your pump is electronically, adjustment screw is for mechanical pump

This type of injection pump uses an electronic governor (COVEC-F) and is controlled by a computer elsewhere in the vehcle ie. no simple external adjustment. To adjust fueling on this pump it SHOULD be done professionally however, it can be adjusted by loosening (NOT REMOVING!!!) the four screws on the top (governor) and tapping it forward or backward with a hammer and a punch. BEWARE: If you choose to attempt this adjustment and botch it your engine may not start or, it will start then idle high and take off on the slightest touch of the throttle.
