98 Mu 3.1 timing belt/ water pump replacement

Postby Davem » Wed Apr 16, 2014 12:17 pm

Hi there,

My timing belt is due for replacement( 200,00km). Can anyone in NZ give me an idea what the belt/water pump kit should cost retail please??? and, where would I get the best deal to buy the necessary bits????

Roughly how long should it take a competent mechanic to install the belt & new water pump???

Appreciate you advice. Thanks.

There are timing belt kits on eBay for 2.8 engines if I remember right I don't have to change them any more i have a rodeo gear driven engine now in my mu.

Stardog, the original poster is from New Zealand. Our most common sources of nationwide supply are probably (in no particular order) Repco, Appco, BNT and Supercheap. There are other places in different parts of the country...

Come on guys, someone in NZ must have had this done to their Mu in recent months. Just ballpark figures will do.
I just want to avoid getting ripped off.

Cheers.

3 hours labour should cover it at 60 - 90 an hour so no more than 300 labour probably a lot less Parts a typical pump is around 150 and a belt kit about the same You should have change from 600 all up
