Japanese 4jb1t harmonic balancer replacement!

Postby killpro4 » Sun Oct 15, 2023 10:51 am

Im looking for a Harmonic balancer for my 1993 Japanese import Isuzu MU with the 4jb1t (belt driven timing) and cant seem to find an exact replacement anywhere online or in parts stores. this is my original balancer

(the 4 bolt holes bolt the crankshaft mating shaft to the actual balancer, the original is a 2 piece balancer rather then a one piece)

and this is the only balancer that I can find to be similar that seems to be for a chain driven 4jb1t motor

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and found that you can just use either balancer interchangeably
I cant seem to find the dimensions of the new balancer and cant afford to shot the money as I'm only an apprentice and a balancer is almost half my weekly pay

nah the actual rubber that "insulates" the vibration has completely let go and just rattles around freely

That balancer looks more like one for a 4jg2 not 4jb1 the b1 is just a light pressed steel one not a heavy cast one

I've had no luck here in Queensland. no one seems to be wrecking them or even has them. tried most wrecking yards around Brisbane and haven't had any luck
ill do a little bit more research on other engines like the 4JG2 but doesn't seem to be showing anything close :/

Here's a catalogue from the planet isuzoo website, you should be able to find your model in there somewhere, and then you can get the part number for the harmonic balancer which should make finding one a lot easier.

Looking at those links one gave me a gear engine the other took a bit of searching. One page gave the same numbers for the 4ja1 engine as the 4jb1 so hunting for a 2.5 isuzu could work. A different page in the same set gave me this https://catalogs.ssg.asia/isuzu/?lang=e ... I9PQ%3D%3D

It shows a belt drive engine and will be common to 4ja1 and 4jb1 engines
