4JB1T Front crank seal

Postby daone » Mon May 10, 2010 2:07 pm

Hi all,

I am planing to change the timing belt soon after. The front crank seal on that enigne have been replaced at last cambelt change ( 100,000Ks ago). It's not leaking should I still replace it?

If so, how do you normally undo the crank shaft pully center bolt please? Can you do it with a not 30 Cm lenghth power bar, or have to use the Air tools? And is it clock wise or anti please?

Is the pully foolproof fitting so you will not fit it back to the wrong position?

Appreciate your time
Many thanks guys

Do NOT undo that bolt unless you are doing the seal. You can undo it with a breaker bar and club hammer but you need to be able to retorque it to 205 foot pound.
I wouldnt touch the seal unless its leaking. Mine is original at 205k +- jap import adjustment.
There is a keyway in there so it only goes on one way. If you do take it off check this keyway for wear
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
