Waste gate jammed open

Hi all

Have just noticed my wastegate after turbo seems to jammed open, not being turbo expert not sure if this is a major problem or not as not totally sure what it dose and if i can live without it.

any info greatly appriciated

How do you know it is jammed open? Is there no boost?

you cant move it at all, boost fine think it would only affect boost if it was jammed closed

you sure its the wastegate and not the warm up thingy
because if the wastegate was stuck open i wouldnt think it would make much boost at all

thanks jellis

think you might be right haveing just looked at manual a bit closer realised the waste gate is at the side of the turbo the gate im talking about is in the exsaust beneath the the turbo controld bye a vacume servo
must be part of the warmup thingy looks to as if it hassent moved for years so im presuming i can live without it

I would not be suprised if its jammed open. The servo is controlled by the quick warm up in the pump and the switch on the dashboard with the engine pic on it. It only works if this switch is on and the coolant temp is below 5C
I would only consider useing if very cold and short trips.
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

I have removed the diaphram from this device and lock wired it in the open position.
I never used to use the QWS and it gave me more room when doing oil changes.

Garston is one of those places it might be needed. Ive seen snow just up the road from there at the hight of summer.(still swam in the lake tho)

Dont seem to have any problems with the starting on cold mornings have allready had a few mornings between -4 to -6 and truck lives outside so gets the full brunt of the frost
have removed the servo dont think i need to wire it open as i think you could never get it to move again seems to be siezed solid but will keep an eye on it

can allways reinstall it if starting becomes a problem
