Water Pump

Postby muzila » Sun Jul 25, 2010 5:13 pm

Hi there. Just did a lot of work on my 91 2.8 Mu. Got it all back to gether and started filling radiator only to find the water pump leaking out the tiny hole underneth the water pump. It wasn't doing this when I took Mu off the road to work on. Can someone enlighten me as to what that little hole is for and why it might have started leaking please.

Cheers.

The hole is a drain to stop the water pump bearing getting water in it if the seal leaks. Run it for a while it might stop leaking once the seal settles in again

Those leaks never stop. Ive had water pumps on three car go like this All got new pumps. One car collapsed the bearing resulting in a metal fan embedded in the radiator.
If its only just started leaking its urgent to fix but not critically so. The pump that lost the bearing had been leaking 6 months.

That's another reason I like to use electric fans, they help make your water pump last longer, if your fan blade is out of balance even a tiny bit it puts undue pressure on the water pump bearings causeing it to fail. anyone out there that is going thu water pumps that's probably the reason, your fan is out of balance, just something to think about.
I live in my own little world, but its OK they know me here.
