4jb1 wont run for long

Postby IFLYLO » Fri Jul 30, 2010 9:50 am

Hi all , Im new to this site so please be patient with me..
I have an isuzu big horn with the intercooled 2.8 4jb1 in it, it came to running but with the turbo off it, I have fitted another turbo to it and it seems to work ok, the problem i am having is that when you start it up it takes a lot of cranking it to get it going, almost like its been run out of fuel, I have bled the filter unit thing and got all the air out of that but what seems to be happening is you can run it for about a min or less then it dies.. when it dies you can hear the fuel from the high points in the lines running back into the tank, im guessing this is normal, there are no vac lines hooked up on it, the egr is still in place (but not for much longer, im taking it off today) Im wondering where you hook up the vac line from the back of the alt and where does the pipe on the fuel pump go to?? im guessing thats part of my problem
any advice would be greatly receieved
thanks

The line on the top of the pump is the boost sensor and connects to the front of the intercooler. It should run without it but wont give much power.
It sounds like an air leak or return valve failure
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Got it sorted, I took the filter top off cleaned out the little metal one way valve and presto it runs like a dream... now all I have to do is stop the oil getting into the intake and its sorted :)
