4JX1 engine

Postby Akiko » Wed May 27, 2009 10:37 pm

Hello All
I have an offer on a late model Jackaroo and have heard a variety of stories from punters about this Isuzu engine (4jx1 3.0) . Bar the recall for the injectors/ o rings, what else do I need to know about this engine and decision? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
PS Unfortunately the Holden service guys I have spoken with barely know they had a diesel in their range!

You are going to have to educate those holden guys or talk to holden head office. You need to know if the recal was carried out on that engine. If it hasnt run away. Suposedly there should be a yellow mark on the engine to say it was done but its not there on all of them and less trustworthy sellers also apply the yellow paint. Othwise a mechanics report should keep you safe.
Running well they are one of the best diesels ever made but they have a few quirks. Oring failure might try to kill you as well as the engine
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
