Need lots of help

Postby BrokenMu » Mon Sep 06, 2010 11:36 pm

Hi everyone,

I've finally got my motor back from the diesel mechanic who rebuilt it..
as it turns out, he is a total jackass who thinks that I can guess where everything that he pulled off goes back.

If anyone could get me detailed photos of where the following pipes run to(see my photos), it'd be GREATLY appreciated!!

It is a 4JB1T (2.8) and I plan on removing the EGR.

Or if anyone lives anywhere near Thomastown in Melbourne and would be willing to drive their MU to my house so I can use it as a reference, I'd happily pay for any costs incurred to yourself and buy you a slab or something to make it worth your while..

I'm desperate to get my Mu back on the road, so ANY help is gladly welcome.

heres my quick guesses, the back of the alternator is the vacum pump so those are vaccum hoses, photo 3 and 4 look like an oil pressure sender and there should be something else there to help with that, Photo 1 and 2 look like heater hoses, photo 5 is water as well and I would guess the same for the one by the alternator.

Does your truck still have AC?

Please don't take this as gospel as I am only guessing but hopefully it should help get you started

The large pipe on the back of the alternator is the vacuum line for the brake booster, the smaller pipe is the vacuum for all the other little rubber lines that were nestled in the top right corner of the engine bay.

If removing EGR system, and don't want automatic A/C idle-up, then this little pipe can be blocked off with a piece of rubber line and a bolt.

Underneath those two pipes there is an oil feed and return for the vacuum pump (back of alternator).

For most of the others it looks like you need a diagram of all the water hoses, and probably a set of new hoses too.

I'm not sure what that thread in the pipe collar is for.

Good luck,
Andy

Cheers for the help guys.

I had worked out what most of them do, it's just the route that they travel which has me stumped..

I ordered every cooling system hose that was in the gates catalog yet it seems as though I'm still missing a few :-/

In my second picture there is another hose outlet/inlet taped up.. I think he may have bolted this up facing the wrong way. Can anyone confirm?

As for the oil pressure sender... that one is a bastard.. I can't see what would need oil pressure on the passenger side of the motor :(

Does your car have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge fitted? It would be plumbed into the fitting by your sender unit.

That sender in the picture is for the light there should be another bigger sender screwed in that hole for the dash gauge

That is over boost valve for your turbo.
It hooks up to the breather pipe

Thanks for the pics!! They speak a million words.

As for the pressure sensor, I realize now that the bastard has taken it off for whatever reason and not put it back on before giving me the motor back.

Pig 75, could you please please get me a photo of the heater core hoses and their routes, and the start to finish of the breather. That'd be a HUGE bit of help.

Regards
Michael

The breather is easy it goes from the back of the rocker cover then tees to the over boost valve then up to the plastic pipe that goes from the air filter to the turbo
Mine goes from the rocker cover to the catch can then tees at the over boost valve
This is the best i can get for the heater hoses

Hi
In your picture where tubes A and B go??
And what that valve C does?
I have a frontera 2.8 and i have that valve C (frontera don't have that) and the tube B is connected with A and then to the tube before the turbo. The previous owner must have made that changes... and i'm trying to understand...
Thanks

A & B go to my catch can C is the over boost valve
The catch can is not factory fitted. Normally there is a short hose going from A to B
this is a link to the catch can FAQ viewtopic.php?f=26&t=909

So.... from factory b connects to A and then to the hose that comes from the air box to the turbo, correct?
About that valve C, my turbo has an overboost (wastegate) valve on it (IHI RBH5), the troope also has that valve on the turbo? this valve C is present also on models with Intercooler?

All the turbos on the 4j*** style motors have a wastegate
The 4jb1t rodeo in Australia does not have the over boost valve

Thanks again Pig75!! I can make out where the severely bent up heater pipe hose goes now, I just have to figure out the other one.

I guess if I get everything else where it needs to be, there can only be one place left for it to go :D

That's a job for tomorrow now. I couldn't get the motor to seat back on the engine mounts and slot back onto the gear box tonight :(

I did learn something though... I hate the thrust bearing on mu gearboxes!!

Is it possible to remove the overboost valve? what damage could it cause if done?
