4JG2 Viscous Fan

Postby walruz » Sun Oct 17, 2010 11:15 am

Well now its time to repair or replace the viscous unit as it's playing up. I know that I can get the silicone gel from Toymota and go down that
path .... but I've also seen here that the Isuzu one is interchangable with a Hilux one. Question.... does anyone know the Hilux year and model?
This is for a 4JG2 Bighorn 1996.

Cheers

I think any diesel surf/hilux will be ok. The bonus is that the toy fan is slightly furthur away from the radiator so it doesnt hit quite as often at in water. (I still disintergrated the blades on on against the radiator though. Have several flat tubes in radiator to prove it)

Are you suggesting that the time the nephew was sitting in the front seat and worrying about water coming over the top of his gumboots and the time ice cold water came over the bonnet and in through the heater vents into my lap I was mistreating the beast?
I thought it enjoyed playing in the mud and water

lol. Its not just me that treats my wagon like that. Do a search for ytube 4x4 deep water. Some far braver people than me. Some of them can hold there breath for a long time as well

OK update, went to Toymota parts this arvy and got the silicone gel to reco the unit...... 26 bucks ouch, must of seen me coming!!! Sooo on the
way home had to drive past a couple of wreckers and whatdoyaknow? Out the front of the first one was a complete '99 3.0L Jackaroo. Jeeze I got
so excited I nearly ran into the kerb! Anyways after comparing it to my Bighorn one and only subtle differences I walked away with a slightly later
model viscous fan. Fitted up alright so fingers crossed it locks up OK. Now to completely recondition the original Bighorn jobbie......

Cheers
