Low oil pressure at hot start

Postby Corsa15TD » Mon Oct 18, 2010 6:12 am

My car Corsa 1.5 td. Engine Isuzu 15DT(T4EC1).
Cold start oil pressure is fine at 5 bars, the oil light goes off at 2-3 seconds.
If I shut down a hot engine and restart it after 20 minutes, there is no oil pressure for the first 10 seconds ( 0 bars) then the oil pressure build to 1.6 bars.

Any clues, the mechanic says this is normal as turbo engines need longer time to get all the oil channels filled with oil?

Sounds like you need a non return or one way valve oil filter to stop the oil from draining back

You think that the oil from the filer is draining back to the sump? If so, that should be a problem with all engines, not just mine.

Sounds like its normal to me, oil gets thinner when hot, IE less oil pressure, has it always been like this or is it something that just started?? the oil sending unit might be going bad??
I live in my own little world, but its OK they know me here.

I just bought the car so I wouldnt know. The oil light was not turning off for 10 or more seconds when the engine was hot but it turned off after 2-3 seconds on cold start, so I hooked the manometer on the engine. I think 10 seconds is very long period for the oil to recirculate through the whole engine, haven't seen one car that would do that.

Hello isuzu guys,

I had a closure of this problem, decided to write back the results. I bought a new oil pump, it turns out it was warn out. Now I have no low oil pressure at hot start, the pressure builds up in 2 seconds no matter if it is cold or hot start. Interesting thing to say is the oil pressure at different revs (1k,2k,3k,4k,5k) remained absolutely the same, but the oil delay at hot start is fixed.
