slight overheating problem

Postby geeves » Sat Nov 13, 2010 7:29 pm

Well its been running a little warm on hills for a while especially in slow convoys but it was also taking longer for it to cool back down at the top with the gauge reaching above half way a couple of times. So its time to wash the radiator. Never a pleasant job esspecialy when you have to keep the engine bay at its current concourse condition.

Snapped 3 of the 4 bolts getting the radiator out but luckily a set of mole grips was able to wind them out the back. then had a look at the front of the radiator. It was slightly dirty

the back wasnt as bad

Half hour with hose sill didnt get through so soaked it for a couple of hours then all was good

Put it all back together and it runs much cooler. Only lost blood from a dozen places during the job as well

all in all a win then, only a dozen cuts, some mud to bring back memories and only four broken bolts, a very productive day indeed

Yeah I can kind of see why it was over heating, lots of bog holes right?

Removing rad isnt a fun job is it haha and my engine bay looks showroom compared to yours, mine is out at the moment. Guessing a hose dosent do much good on the baked on dirt under there.
By the way what is that pole that runs across the front of the engine bay for - ill hazard a guess - its for turning the engine over by hand when you are doing the timing/valve clearances or something like that???

Thats the factory jack handle For the jack that should be under the drivers seat

cant use anything stronger than a hose or you do too much damage to the fins. Soaking in water softens thing so it cleans easier. Ive probably missed 5 to 10% of the mud but it runs cold now.
Ive just got to fix both u joints in the front driveshaft now

You Kiwis love ya mud!

I've seen a similar radiator in a Jackaroo after a day in the mud at our Glasshouse Mountains.

Ah the factory jack in mine got stolen years ago along with the factory recaros

With respect to the hose I actually meant cleaning the dirt out from the engine bay in general, is it all too baked on with the heat or you just like the dirty look :)
