what oil?

Postby oompalompa » Sun Dec 12, 2010 7:54 am

hi guys, time to change the oil before christmas hollidays. what sort of oil should i use? my truck has 270 kms on it and if it has been sitting in the drive for a couple of weeks it blows a little bit of blue smoke on the initial start. ive always been told to go for thick oil but the young guy in ripco was sure i should go for semi synthitic, he seemed to think this would help with the smoke on cold start. is he yanking my chain or is there some truth to this?

A 4jx1 will hate you for ever more if you dont run full synthetic.
All other engines dont really care as long as you use a good quality oil and change it by the book.
Putting synthetics into any old engine does run a risk of causing oil leaks as it scours rubbish of the insides of all the seals. Luckily most of these leaks stop again when normal oil is used
Get a good diesel oil with a rating of ch4 or better in 15w40 and you will be fine
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
