Postby force » Wed Jul 22, 2009 9:33 pm

 my bighorn has got excessive white smoke on startup. truck has been running fine with no smoke, started it up to come home from work and it was pouring out. could it be a jammed wastegate or could the turbo have popped?

My truck has alot of white smoke untill its warmed up, dont think there is much wrong until it blows blue/black smoke. I think the diesel pump needs adjusting.
Cheers,
Andrew

hi guys, had the truck looked at by mechanic , thankfully it was a jammed wastegate so its fixed now and didnt cost me anything, he also stated that a jammed piston in diesel pump can cause it as well, so i think i got off lucky this time

Its common for a diesel to smoke badly when very cold but should stop after a minuite or 2. It will stink of diesel and sting the eyes if this is the cause. Not a lot to worry about.
If it smells of diesel but doesnt stop you have an injector problem
If it smells of oil motor is on the way out
If it smells of steam suspect a cracked head
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
