Engine stutter

Postby crackers » Mon Jul 27, 2009 6:29 pm

I got a 97 Bighorn 3.1td ,65k on the clock and the other day it developed a bit of a stutter. It only does it when its warm after being parked up for 15mins or more.It starts and idles fine but as soon as you give it a bit of gas it stutters a few times then it comes right.Any ideas???TIA

sounds like you could have an injector playing up, if you havent changed your fuel filter, change that and put an injector cleaner through

If a double dose of injector cleaner doesnt fix it get it looked at by a diesel mechanic.
The EFI setup in the pump wears initialy causeing this and a pulseing idle then it overfuels suddenly under load resulting in byebye engine.
How accurate is that mileage?

The mileage is accurate as the odometer has been verified and Its in mint condition. As far as the idle goes it does pulse only when you put it in park and only for a second then it idles normally.I had a 95 bighorn a few years back and it did the same thing so I presume that this is normal.I will put a new fuel filter on and put some injector cleaner through. Can anyone recommend a good injector cleaner as there are a lot to choose from and some people say they can do more harm than good.Cheers.

I use Nulon as I got it cheap but Morleys and Wyns and STP are also good as are several others.
Ive heard the pulseing I described and its constant not just for a second or 2.
