Squeal

Postby walruz » Sun Aug 09, 2009 5:51 pm

Hi Guys, need some more ideas or suggestions.
Currently have a squeal at 2500 ish with no load and under load from 1500 rpm. OK it's not the belts, having removed them all. Not the turbo, brand spanker.
Exhaust manifold planed, new gasket also new gaskets to turbo and dump. No obvious cracks or splits in plumbing or intercooler. Removed egr's, all sealed up, vacuum lines plugged. Running out of things to look for......

Cheers

Double chect the seal of the egr ports. Been there done that Even the experts couldnt find it. It sounds like a leak on the pressure side of the inlet system. Look closely there.
At least yours does it at no load Mine would only do it with load and its hard to look under the bonnet at 80kph.

Cheers, was squealing before egr's were removed. Only removed them in the course of doing all the other work. Well sealed with gaskets and jointing compound.

Cheers Glenn

A long screwdriver can be used as a stethoscope to track down the noise. Be carefull of the rotating parts They will take an ear off

Glen check the nuts on the turbo where it goes on the manifold, They can come loose especially if you have used the orginial nuts, has happened to mine a couple of times.

Cheers Bruce
ps if any are loose it will be the bottom ones, hardest to get to of course.

Hi Bruce, yeah mate everything has been redone on the exhaust side. Hasn't been run long enough to loosen any nuts!!!! Got me stumped however it's going to diesel tech this week to sort this and a few other probs out. Running like crap at the moment, maybe it's the swineflu.....

Did you use new nuts when you changed the turbo. Isuzu turbo nuts are not reusable. I found this out the hard way. The went loose in about 1000km. Put new ones on and never come loose since.

Hi there JustinW

Nah used the old ones with lockwashers, truck hasn't driven more than 20 k's. Reason being Holden "genuine" wanted $13 for each one so I told them I would think about it..... Yeah right. Anyways I'm off to check the timing belt, think it's 1 tooth out after changing it...... doh :( :( :(

If your timing belt was out by one tooth i think you would be rebuilding an engine.
Cheers,

Should clarify, only injecter pump is out. Must have moved when tensioning the belt..... This time do it by the book and lock off pulleys also stick to the building trade!!!!

Yeeehaaaaa squeal fixed. Took a while only working on it weekends, busy @ work. OK what was it I hear you all asking? Well it wasn't anything on the exhaust side now that all the gaskets have been replaced and a few other things were sorted. Wasn't any of the plumbing or intercooler, had everything off and pressure tested. Wasn't bearings, had all the belts off and still did it. Wasn't mechanical, only came in @ certain rpm.

Sooooooooo after getting out the stethescope and playing Dr Kildare finally diagonised inlet manifold leak on #3. Not major but enough to squeal. The excitement of finding the problem was dampened somewhat by the "genuine" isuzu price of $49 for said gasket :( :( :(

Anyways alls well that ends well eh.

Cheers

Good work. It doesnt take much and can be a pig to track down. When mine did this due to a leaking egr gasket it only did it under load. Made it real hard to find

Thats the price we pay for doing suspension lifts. When ever I've done anything major on the motor i let the torsion bars down several turns, then just screw them back up the same number of turns when finished.
Oh how i miss my mu, the lux is just not the same :(
