Rattle

Postby bizusu » Tue Sep 08, 2009 9:14 pm

Hey guys

I have a '92 3.2l DOHC Bighorn Imrascher.
I have owned for nearly three years now with few problems, however of late a very loud rattle in the engine has developed. It is very loud when idling but disipates a bit when the revs get above 3000 revs.
I have been told it is possibly an engine bearing that has gone, and would be quite costly to fix. what is a ball park figure?
I picked the jeep up cheap so if fixing it at cost is an option.
Any ideas on this would be appreciated.

Not tryiing to be a smart arse, but a stone jammed between the transfer case and bash plate makes a hell of a racket at idle.
Oh how i miss my mu, the lux is just not the same :(

I agree with Mulover. Check for jammed stone etc. Or a bashplate that has moved (been pushed). Have had the same thing happen to me. The origin of noises can be deceptive at times.

Could be the bolts on the front cross-member, took me 2 weeks to find that noise and it always sounded like it was coming from the engine bay. Could only hear it when idling and on deacceleration.

Andrew
