2002 2.5 turbo,I need parts

Postby wbski007 » Sun Sep 27, 2009 7:25 am

Hi fellows,Just joined the club,I have a 1998 Rodeo US model, with a 2002 UK 2.5 turbo diesel,I purchased it off Ebay,I'm having a hard time finding engine parts here in the states as they don't sell Isuzu's with that motor here,it runs great but I'm looking for new spare parts ,such as water pump and timing belt, just in case I need them later on,any help in finding them will be greatly apprecated,
thanks

Yeah in OZ we don't get that engine either, they used them in the UK as the cost of registration or insurance goes up alot when the cc are over 2500.

In the 1996-1997 models interior trim, including the dashboard, was changed, and a new 2.5 diesel (VM41) engine was fitted. This engine was also used in the Range Rover and Jeep Cherokee in the UK.

I think it maybe a BMW diesel

Does the motor have a number on it to identify. If Isuzu it will start "4j" If its the VM then I expect it will have this designation.
A photo might help.

do you know where the engine # would be located,I've looked but can't see one,it does say ISUZU on the valve cover,I'm quite sure it is an Isuzu engine, exuast is on the passenger side, intake and injection pump is on the driver side and it takes an ac Delco 1298 oil filter,
thanks for the help so far

Yeah that defiantly an Isuzu motor. The engine number will be on your drivers side at the back under the intake plenum, there will be an engine number stamped and below that there will be a casting with the engine type 4j**

Theres a big hole where they normaly are but I can see what looks like air con pipe work

That looks lyke a 2.8TD that someone have played around with and shifted stuff. Are those UK motors just a differant bore size??

Its almost identical to my engine bay. Only real differance I can see is that the aircon pipes and brake booster are on the oppisite side as per a LHD would be.

What I would ask though is, A where is the fan? (electric?) and where are the cold start and EGR sensors in the thermo housing?? The rest of the EGR is there.

That silver/white plate on the firewall isnt the ID plate is it??? That would tell you what you have.

It looks the same as a 4JB1, so if it's 2.5 it must be the 4JA1, and judging buy some spares like the head here
http://www.made-in-china.com/showroom/x ... lete-.html
it is the same except for the stroke.
Water pump looks the same.
Here you go ebay...

The water pumps in the 4J** series are very good, you rarely hear of them dying.

Cheers Wayne, having a contact in the states for parts could be helpful.

Just on a side note to what Mulover was saying above about the Frontera Manual.
One problem that I have noticed with this manual is that the wiring diagrams are wrong.
I have the same book as Mulover mentions and most of the wiring colour codes are different.
It still gives you a basic idea of how things work though.
