Disconnecting CSD

Postby magicdeo » Sun Jul 31, 2016 12:23 pm

Gday, where I live, temperatures get down around 0 but no colder. The glow plugs work well but I do not believe i need to CSD to advance the timing and wish to disconnect it. Will having it disconnected harm anything else? Cheers

Your motor is the 4jb1? If so the CSD does nothing until its below 5C anyway. The part that advances the timing can be left alone without harm or benefit and will help starting on those really cold days. Leave it be. There is another part to the CSD though. This is a flap in the exhaust below the turbo often mistaken for an exhaust brake. This helps warm the engine when its very cold. Only really helpfull in short trips in sub 0C conditions. Not a major to remove the flap or just wire it in the open position. Removing may receive a little extra power maybe

Yes it is 4JB1. I just hate the rattlyness of the motor when it is activated and since i do not believe i need it i thought I might disconnect it. Wasnt aware of the flap in the exhaust

since it uses coolant temp it wont stay on very long. Also consider that when it activates the glow plug timing is increased
