1999 Trooper Running Problems

Postby V6cdti » Tue Sep 27, 2016 11:37 pm

I could use some advice.
My neighbour has a 1999 3.0 turbo diesel Izuzu trooper and it has developed issues over the last month.
It was bought at the beginning of the year and has went fine for him until about 4 weeks ago it started cutting out for no reason while driving along then got harder to start. We first changed the fuel filter then the fuel line as symptoms were like air getting in to the fuel.We have even done away with filter and tried a gravity feed and still no luck it would eventually start but would only run for a short distance 1-2 miles. We have changed the oil and filters 5w-30 and it is now worse than ever it takes 10-15 seconds of cranking and will run for about 10-15 seconds then konk out and will take another minute or two of cranking to get going again for 10-15 seconds of running.
I have never worked on an Izuzu engine so any advice would be appreciated.

This is the 4JX1 motor. Plenty of info on the itocuk.co.uk forum. In the cooler climate I think a 0W-30 oil better. Check oil level if increasing, check coolant for diesel.
