4JH1-TC COMPATABILITY

Postby 7739ian » Thu Feb 09, 2017 9:46 pm

I have checked every post and cannot find an answer - I have a 2005 NKR200 with a 4JH1-TC engine - which has failed at 207k and is non repairable. This engine ran in the NKR200 series from 2002 to 2007 and is coupled to a 5 speed box. I cannot afford the 10k quoted for a used one. The Holden Rodeo ran the same motor over the same years and I can get these for 3-4k. Are they interchangeable? Any advice would be most welcome.

They might be cammed and timed differently but otherwise they will be the same engine. You may have to swap over the sump and oil pick up though.
Check the dipstick is in the same place. I remember a vauxhall engine a flatmate had about 30 (might be 40) years ago. He swaped a 3.3 cresda engine into a 3.3 victor. It needed a sump swap but when we got it in we found that we couldnt put the dipstick in as it hit the sump so no way to check oil. Its a pity I dont have a picture of the original engine. When the bonnet was opened one of the pistons was sitting on the crossmember.

Well I have found the specs for both motors. The only difference is the torque. The truck motor develops 280n/m @ 1700 rpm and the Rodeo motor 280 n/m @2400 rpm. Any advice on where to from here?

interesting. Same torque different revs. Could be different tubo pressure of you get an engine that likes the gears more
