Twin battery starting

Postby andy120 » Sat Feb 11, 2017 6:49 am

Our 96 wizard is a 12v twin battery setup. It is difficult to turn over with one battery (both near new) like a flat battery. Our other wizard is single battery and has no trouble starting. All the same N70MF 580CCA batteries. I want to use one battery. Is there any difference in starter between single and double battery setups? Would the larger 750cca be able to start it ($400 so I don't want to pay it unless I know it will do it).

Sounds like voltage drop. If you have a D.V.O.M. check voltage from battery 1 negative to block, as close as you can to the starter. Then from battery 1 positive to positive stud on the starter. Shouldn't have move than 0.5V when you ad the 2 together.
Do the same on the second battery.
Where ever you get a high voltage reading, you are loosing cranking curent to resistance. Clean cables at batteries, ground points, and starter.
