Finding an exhaust leak

Postby magicdeo » Fri Dec 22, 2017 8:10 am

Gday, i have a intermittent tick if you like sometimes while idling and sometimes when coming down the gears while engine is not on load. The noise has only been there since taking the exhaust manifold off and fitting a new turbo. It sounds like it could be an exhaust leak? I have felt all around there while the engine is cold and sprayed soapy water on all the gaskets and cant find anything. I have heard of a bloke putting a vacuum cleaner on his exhaust pipe and you can hear the air sucking in a leak but will this spool my turbo with no oil going to it? Cheers

It won't spool the turbo fast enough to cause an issue if even works
Better to use a long screwdriver as a stethoscope
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
