Arrrgh very surgey when cruising

Postby MightyMO0o » Thu Feb 15, 2018 6:50 pm

Hey guys have been using this site for a long time, have finally found a problem that I can’t quite find one here so here’s the first post :D

I have a 1996 Mu with a 4jg2 engine (auto)

The problem I have been having is when I keep a constant throttle the engine jumps through the revs up and down, sometimes even changing gear. At one point it wouldn’t even shift intO over-drive, Even when it’s “engine breaking” it will drop revs.
This made me think it might be the torque converter, but it seems to drive fine when accelerating, maybe holding on to the gear a little long.

I have checked trans fluid, I’ve unplugged each water temp sensor and run the Mu, which did allow it to change into overdrive but was still jumping all it’s revs all over the place.

Please help have been tearful ng my hair out for weeks

Speed sensor maybe although that would also show speedo issues

Only other things I can think of are aircon fast idle and if its electronic pump the governor in the pump
