Ive just been emailed the following. I dont know the engine so better to post it up here for advice
hello mate i was wondering if you could help me i just brought a 4jh1-tc
holden rodeo it seems to be using alot of oil replaced turbo thinking it
was the turbo seal still leaking it looks like it is leaking from up behind
the turbo on the block somewhere .... i dont know im at wits end over this
, blow by is a fair bit , just brought the car and the previous owner is
not taking my phone calls , i am wanting to check the pcv valve but can not
find it i have taken the tapper cover off to find a metal bracket thing
full of oil but no pcv valve ? there is now oil in the new turbo on the
compressor side ? seems like there is to much oil pressure ? im lost mate
and clutching at straws ... the car only has 200,000 km on it . the engine
has started to run away twice and i had to stall it . engine sounds smooth
apart from the pcv hose it vents like an old tractor and thoughts would be
amazing thanks for your time
appreciate it

Now my thoughts are the pcv is the same as earlier engines and there is just a light rubber flap inside that housing to prevent blowback. The logical answer seems to be fitting a catch can and draining this back into the dipstick but if blow by is that severe it might be time for new rings.
