Good luck getting your turbo off i hope it isnt as bad as mine was to take off nearly all day the person who owned mine must own loktite as well. Plus nearly every bolt and stud was seized being a 94 model you have to undo the air con as well and sit where i had to take the battery out to get at the bolts underneath it. Now i know why mechcanics charge so much to work on a mu.I still have to drill and ezy out broken studs on turbo and re tap them. next job after this is leaking steering box and pump i hate leaks really looking forward to this one as well i didn't lose that much skin but to rotate the turbo to fit the intercooler might be worth it we will see.And i thought my ford was a bitch to work on.

Did you end up buying a kit and if so did you have much hassle fitting it?

While this is a 3.1 thread, I've been told by these guys, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT, that their kit will fit a VI87 or VI58 as well. It describes both 4JB1T and 4JG2 in the listing but I also checked the specific 2.8 numbers with them. I'm wondering how anyone has gone with the quality of kits like these, and the actual installation process in the turbo itself (looking for backyard install of course). I thought I read somewhere on the old forum that the 2.8Turbo was not rebuildable but maybe I'm making my own stories up now :-) At less than $80 delivered, plus the anxt of taking the turbo off and rebuilding, it would seem quite reasonable. It has been a few years since I've taken some turbo's off though so all the skin is back on my knuckles :|

2.8 bighorn and some early Mu are rebuildable. Some 2.8 Mu and all 3.1 engines have ceramic bearings that cant be rebuilt as far as I know.
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Looking cool ebay has parts but they don't have enough parts for my engine rebuild. I found my items to other vendor and it works really well with my car. They have all sorts of performance parts like Turbo Kit and other auto accessories.
