"90" 2.6ltr MU wont run

Postby slothy » Mon Jul 02, 2018 4:06 pm

gday all, recently took the rig for a trip and it started to have issues, was running fine and now it won't stay running, thought it was a fuel filter but replaced that and problems still there, the fuel light on the dash stays on and also another light that im not sure what it means, its to the left of the fuel light. im thinking the fuel pump maybe fingered as i cant here it anymore but when i pull the ignition fuse i can hear the fuel pump running, defiantly got me stumped. any one have any ideas what could be the cause?

cheers

so finally found out what one of the lights mean after searching google but still struggling to find a resolution, its the cat converter warning sign, the exhaust system looks like its just been replaced so not sure why this warning light stays on.

Have you got a decent spark?
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Is it carburetor or fuel injected?

On the assumption that it is carburetted:
1) have you pulled the fuel hose off the carb and checked for a decent flow after your new filter.
2) Is it points ignition or electronic? If points are they still set with the correct gap?
3) Does the coil test ok electrically?
4) Is the air filter ok?
5) Does the carburetor float/needle/seat all work/set ok?

When dying does it stop suddenly or just get slower and slower?

its injected, it idles for a couple of seconds then slowly dies like its running out of fuel, funny thing is if i turn the ignition on with out pressing the demobiliser i can hear the fuel pump running but when i get it to idle for a couple of seconds i cant hear the pump ( can normally hear it running when at the back of the car). when i pulled the ignition fuse out and the ignition on the pump runs. i hand a few perished vacuum line that i have replaced with new hose as well.

ok so after piss farting around and replacing a few things, fuel pump, fuel pump relay ( bypassed the relay and got car to run ) and still same issue, finally replaced alternator and now she runs fine. defiantly went the long way about it but its all sorted now.
