OIL LEEK

Postby 1Isuzu » Tue Feb 19, 2019 5:26 pm

Hi there. Can any one shed some light on this one. Iv got a 1988 isuzu bighorn 2.8 diesel that has an oil leek from some were around the oil cooler ? Iv pressure washed the engine . Put still cant find were the oil is coming from. Read some forums ………my be the return oil feed from the turbo ? but Im not sure what pipes Im supposed to be looking for as Im not keen to take of the manifold at this stage of the game. Iv had this thing for 13 years and it still goes like a cut snake. Any hints. Thanks.

Hi, if you follow the lower steel pipe from your turbo it ends up infront of the oil filter, you have to look from either inside the wheel arch with the wheel off or on your back looking up infront of oil filter. its a diamond looking flange with 2 small bolts and has a 90 degree turn going up to turbo. if that's leaking its an easy fix. loosen the bolts but don't pull them out, you only want a gap to finger in some oil resistant sealant. the RVT silicon high oil resistant one is good, fixed my leak this way. just put enough around the edges to make a seal.

Found the basted leek. It was coming from the main oil feed from the side of the block up to the alternator. Bolt was missing from a bracket that held the pipe against the block . Thus allowing the pipe to vibrate against the block. There was no more than pin hole in the pipe. Wot an ass it was to get at ......let alone put it back. Now on the hunt for a replacement pipe. Many thanks for ya advice.
