Engine idle

Postby mrMUMU » Tue Feb 25, 2020 9:22 pm

Hi Mu owners
I’m wanting to know if anyone can help
Hi have a 1993 Isuzu Mu with the 2.8 automatic all egr still intact

On start up the engine runs a bit rough which I understand as they all do I use the dash idle to help this, once warm and in Park it idles fairly smooth

I find if I put it in Drive it idles rough where I have to turn the dash idle, but doing this it’s to much when In traffic.

Any suggestions would be great.

Could it need a gearbox service?

What RPM is it idling at warm with no help from the dash idle control?

From memory the recommended idle speed is 720-750 RPM. Maybe you just need to bump the idle speed up a bit.

I think that it should probably idle at between 720-750 rpm, warm and in gear (automatic trans). Not 100% sure though as all mine are manual trans.
