low oil pressure

Postby andy120 » Tue May 12, 2020 10:49 am

got a puzzling one. the dash oil pressure drops to 0 going around corners. no lack of oil, new filter 4-5kg/cm normal pressure. used the best oil pump i had when main bearings done. the aux oil pressure gauge is 10psi, not sure if its pre or post oil filter. No external leaks.

Is this hot cold or both? Does it drop suddenly? Does the drop show on both guages?

hot only. sudden drop, the switch wire is properly connected, a wee bit of wiggle. 2nd gauge doesnt always drop, only when rpms <1000 odd rpm.

looks connected. should you see oil in the rocker cover when its running? Cause i cant see rack all, and its very 'tappity'.

Prob going to drop the bottom off the oil pump if i can just taking off just the bottom sump.

Not good. Screen on the bottom of the filter can block. What oil are you running?

15-40 mineral

Right, so got the bum off. Were bits of RTV silicon and fuzz in it, not enough i would have thought to obstruct it that much. Cant get the oil pump bottom off, 1 bolt doesn't have just enough room to come out. No swarf in the sump. Contemplating whether to put it back together and see what the pressure does, or drop the whole sump off on the premise that i've missed a bearing somehow.

Checked pressure relief valve, not that. Still looking at a massive internal leak.
