Frontera sport engine change

Postby dbooth » Fri Sep 25, 2020 3:40 pm

I have a 1998 Frontera sport with I believe a 2.0l X20 ? engine. 4 cylinder petrol in Australia. I am looking to replace it with a X22 engine. I am led to believe that this would be a straight swap as these have a common engine block. Just looking for any information that might be available. Am I using the correct designation for the engines? If not what are the correct ones. How easy is it to get the engine out? Does the gearbox need to come out with the engine? Do I need to drop the gearbox before I remove the engine. Any information gladly received!!!

Although we have a few gen 3 Mus here which are mostly the same vehicle they have the Isizu based v6 or 4jx1 diesel engines not the Opel engine you have
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
