80 amp main fuse on Bighorn

Postby suzinoobie » Sun Oct 26, 2014 8:04 am

Hi guys, Just a query. Would installing the battery with the ignition turned on blow the main fuse? Grandson was helping ;) to move the truck to get at the boat for the weekend. Truck hadn't been used for about ten days and the dodgy battery was flat. We charged it up and he put it in and bingo no lights etc.
Checked the main fuse when I got home-- blown. :o Don't really know if he did anything else to cause it, he's quite onto it so don't think so. Don't want to blow any more if I can help it. With the fuse out am getting 14-15 volts across the fuse so am hoping its all ok.
cheers

Check the starter motor wires for any rubbing especially under the saddles at the bottom of the block

that fuse powers everything so hard to tell. Only answer I have is to test the resistance between the load side of the fuse holder and earth with the battery out while operating each accessory you used when it blew. It should be obvious which is a hard short and go from there
