Dual Battery Setup

Postby 98Rodeo » Thu Apr 15, 2010 3:27 pm

Hi all,

i am looking at doing my dual battery setup this weekend, nearly got all the parts
i would like to know if anyone has any pictures of a diesel with both batteries under the bonnet.
I realise i will have to move a few things but want to know how others havfe gone about this.

Thanks
Geoff

Seen some with second battery placed between the intake manifold and guard (as far back towards firewall as possible), you have to have EGR's removed though.

I've been thinking about mounting the second battery under the body, anywhere with enough space, like between the chassis rail and driveshaft.

I got a RedArc Smart Solenoid for my install (not done), what have you gone with?

yeah i have the redarc isolator aswell, I was thinking of putting the second battery in the cab where the back seat was (i removed it, its a 98 rodeo dual cab ute) but then I would need to spend twice as much to get a gel or agm battery so i dont have the gas or spillage in the cab

Mine is a 98 rodeo and I fit my second battery under the bonnet with no problem, of coarse mine is left hand drive but here's some photos of how I did it, I also isolated the seconed battery with a solinoid and only use it when needed.
Battery #2 is grounded to the intake and the pos goes to solinoid and then to pos on starter, I have a switch on the dash that works the solinoid to kick in my second battery when I need it. simple

I use it when I replace my fuel filter, I disconect the out line and put the line in the bottle and turn on my ingnition that works my electric fuel pump and it fills the new filter untill it starts coming out into my bottle, then I replace the line and bingo I'm good to go

I had a bit of a look at mine again last night, there is jsut too much stuff for me to mvoe to be bothered now..
and i already put my air compressor in the spot where the batter "could" go
I'd need to move the water separator, power steering and intake a bit and make a bracket that would fit, then find somewehre for the compressor.. cant be bothered :-) behind the passenger seat it is

Make sure you use the sealed battery types, and a good battery box!

Wouldn't wanna chuck a spanner in the back and have sparks flying :)
