park lights work but headlights wont

Postby harlym1997 » Sat Apr 17, 2010 1:30 pm

hi people... i have a 90 mu and the other day turned my head lights on but only the park lights came on, pulled the switch out and tried it on another vehicle thinking my switch was faulty but it worked fine, tried new fuses still no luck, just wondering if this is a common problem.

2 blown bulbs?
dont laugh With the number of people that drive round on 1 bulb it only takes the second one to blow and they get what you have.
Could be the relay but failures are rare. You need to test with a mulimeter
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

put your finger on top of the relay and you should feel it click when the switch flicks around to headlights.

High beam and low beam don't work?

Might be an earth if not bulbs or relay....maybe but I would think each side would earth seperately

Check the connector on the steering column the plug that goes to the indicator switch. Unplug the connector and look for burnt or discolored pins

changed all the relays with ones that work..... nothing
tested globes on another vehicle ....... both work fine
used a test light on the three headlight pins to check for power, the three pins would light up when the switch is switched on
high beams work but low beams won't

now checking earth wiring thinking/hoping its as easy as that

Make sure the plug is actully connecting with the pins on the bulb. I had that problem when I first got my MU.

I twisted the bulb pins slightly to make the connection. It also helpd hold the plug on as well.
